From academic
research to
agro-zootechnical innovation
AgriBusiness Consulting (ABC) was established as a spin-off of the University of Turin, and it was specifically set up by the Forage Team within the Department of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences (DISAFA).
ABC, with its years of experience in national and international research networks, emerged from the idea of offering tailored technical and economic services to support agricultural businesses. It works in close collaboration with local livestock associations and the dairy supply chain, and it has expanded to serve the entire agri-livestock sector. The core goal of ABC is to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of agricultural production systems. Explore the Forage Team's research focus
The research activities of ABC covers the entire dairy chain, that is, from forage production to cheese processing, with special focus on the hygienic and microbiological quality of cattle diets. ABC also evaluates the efficiency and environmental impacts of forage systems through Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodologies.
Globally recognized expertise
The Research Division of AgriBusiness Consulting was created to apply university-developed knowledge to real-world agricultural and livestock operations. By working closely with local agricultural structures, the aim of ABC is to test and evaluate new production processes, technologies, and farm management strategies in commercial settings.
The key areas of the applied research include:
- Innovative products and the varietal evaluation of field crops;
- Technical and economic assessments of new agronomic, harvesting, and forage conservation strategies for dairy and beef animals;
- The use of additives and bacterial inoculants to enhance silage quality and nutrition;
- The testing of feed additives, supplements, and agro-industrial by-products in the diets of productive and non-productive livestock;
- The development of specialized rations for dairy cows to improve their performance and health, and farm sustainability;
- The evaluation of the environmental impacts on livestock farming and across the dairy supply chain (e.g., cheese plants, cooperatives, processors);
- LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) according to ISO 14040:2006 and ISO 14044:2018, but also according to other sustainability indicators, such as non-renewable resource efficiency, water use, and soil use, with the aim of reducing food-feed competition.
The aim of ABC is to serve as a bridge between academic research and practical farming, thereby ensuring that scientific rigor translates into measurable, field-ready solutions.
